What this trial studies

This is a cross-sectional, predictive correlational study using purposive sampling of patients who survived an acute stroke and are admitted to the general ward at National Taiwan University Hospital in Taipei. Researchers collect clinical measures (NIHSS, Barthel Index, Modified Rankin Scale) and responses to a questionnaire about factors and preferences in selecting post-acute rehabilitation care. Statistical analyses seek correlations and predictive relationships between clinical status, patient characteristics, and chosen rehabilitation settings. The aim is to inform clinicians and discharge planners so they can better incorporate patient preferences into rehabilitation arrangements.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18 or older diagnosed with an acute stroke within two weeks (first or second stroke), medically stable, able to communicate in Chinese or Taiwanese, not living in rehabilitation wards, and with a Modified Rankin Scale score below 5 are eligible.

Not a fit: Patients with very severe disability (mRS 5), unstable vital signs, those already in rehabilitation wards or receiving palliative care, recurrent admissions for the study, or who cannot communicate in Chinese or Taiwanese are unlikely to benefit or be eligible.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the findings could help clinicians match rehabilitation options to patients' preferences and needs, improving patient-centered discharge planning and satisfaction.

How similar studies have performed: Previous observational studies have identified clinical and social factors that influence post-stroke rehabilitation choices, though findings vary by healthcare system and local context.
