What this trial studies

This is a 3-month randomized, double-blind, controlled intervention comparing a carbonated beverage enriched with 0.2% Chios mastic water (600 mL/day) to an identical placebo beverage in adults with dyspepsia. Participants are enrolled at Harokopio University and undergo baseline and post-intervention assessments. Outcomes include dyspepsia symptom severity, quality of life, anthropometric measures, lifestyle habits, and biochemical markers. The trial tests a liquid by-product formulation of Chios mastic that builds on prior work with the resin.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 30–60 with dyspepsia, BMI 20–35 kg/m2, without major chronic or chronic gastrointestinal diseases, not taking excluded medications or supplements, and not pregnant or breastfeeding.

Not a fit: Patients with other chronic gastrointestinal disorders, major chronic diseases, those taking immunosuppressants/antibiotics/anti-inflammatories or Chios mastic products, pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those unable to follow the protocol may not benefit from this intervention.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, it could offer an easy, natural beverage option to reduce dyspepsia symptoms and improve quality of life.

How similar studies have performed: Chios mastic resin has prior clinical evidence and EMA recognition for mild dyspeptic disorders, so this trial builds on existing positive findings though the aqueous 'mastic water' beverage is a novel formulation.
