Characterizing infections in the eye using advanced sequencing techniques
Total Infectome Characterization of Eye Infections: a Metagenomic Sequencing Based Observational Study
This study is trying to understand the different germs that cause eye infections by analyzing samples from people with conditions like pink eye and other serious infections.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the total infectome of eye infections through metagenomic sequencing. It focuses on various types of eye infections, including acute conjunctivitis, keratitis, uveitis, and endophthalmitis, diagnosed by experienced ophthalmologists. Participants will provide biological samples, such as conjunctival swabs or intraocular fluid, which will be analyzed using the Illumina NovaSeq X Plus platform. Clinical information will also be collected from electronic medical records to support the analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include patients diagnosed with one or more types of eye infections who can provide biological samples.
Not a fit: Patients without clinically surplus specimens or those not diagnosed with eye infections may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding and diagnosis of eye infections, leading to improved patient outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using metagenomic sequencing for pathogen surveillance is gaining traction, this specific application to eye infections is relatively novel.
