Characterizing colorectal cancer spread to the peritoneum
Molecular Characterisation of Colorectal Cancer Peritoneal Metastases: Genomic and Transcriptomic Analysis With Correlation of Clinical Outcomes
This study is trying to understand how colorectal cancer spreads to the abdominal lining by looking at tumor cells from patients to see if certain genetic changes can help predict how well treatments will work.

What this trial studies
This project aims to analyze tumor cells and their environment in colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases to understand the molecular changes that lead to this condition. By conducting genetic profiling on archived tissue from patients who have undergone surgery for colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases, the study seeks to identify mutation patterns that could predict treatment responses and survival outcomes. The findings will be compared with clinical characteristics to enhance personalized treatment strategies and potentially improve patient outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with colorectal cancer and have colorectal peritoneal metastases, and who have undergone cytoreductive surgery.
Not a fit: Patients who have not had cytoreductive surgery or do not have available archival tumor tissue will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to more personalized and effective treatment options for patients with colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases.
How similar studies have performed: While there has been limited research on the molecular characterization of colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases, similar studies in other cancer types have shown promise in identifying biomarkers and improving treatment strategies.
