Characteristics of Patients with Acute Coronary Syndrome Related to Cocaine Use
Clinical Presentation, Coronary Angiographic Findings and Extent of Atherosclerotic Disease in Patients With Acute Coronary Syndrome Associated With Cocaine Use

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to analyze the clinical, socioeconomic, and angiographic characteristics of patients experiencing acute coronary syndrome (ACS) associated with cocaine use. It will compare these patients to those with ACS not linked to cocaine use, focusing on the extent of atherosclerotic disease and other clinical variables. The study will be conducted in two phases: a retrospective analysis of cases from April 2019 to June 2023, followed by a prospective analysis from November 2023 to November 2024. Data will be collected from patients admitted to the coronary care unit of a high-complexity public hospital.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who have been hospitalized with a diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome.
Not a fit: Patients who cannot be interviewed due to their clinical condition or those without a history of cocaine use may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the cardiovascular risks associated with cocaine use, leading to improved management strategies for affected patients.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited specific research on ACS related to cocaine use in Argentina, similar studies in other regions have highlighted the cardiovascular risks associated with cocaine, suggesting potential for valuable insights.
