What this trial studies

This is a prospective, observational project at Necmettin Erbakan University’s Department of Periodontology that follows adults with stage 3–4 periodontitis receiving routine non-surgical periodontal treatment. No additional invasive procedures are performed; the study uses clinical and radiographic records routinely collected during care, including pocket depth, clinical attachment level, bleeding on probing, gingival and plaque indices, keratinized gingival width, mobility, furcation grade, and recession. Patients attend scheduled follow-ups between one month and one year after treatment, and data from those with a six-month follow-up are analyzed. Sociodemographic information and oral hygiene habits are recorded to help interpret treatment outcomes.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults aged 18–65 with documented stage 3 or 4 periodontitis who are not pregnant or breastfeeding, smoke fewer than 10 cigarettes per day, and can attend regular follow-up visits.

Not a fit: People with uncontrolled systemic disease, a diabetes diagnosis, heavy smokers (10 or more cigarettes per day), or those unable to keep follow-up appointments are unlikely to benefit from participation.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this could help clinicians predict how much pocket depth improves after standard non-surgical therapy and inform follow-up timing.

How similar studies have performed: Numerous prior studies have shown that non-surgical periodontal therapy typically reduces pocket depths, and this study aims to document those changes within routine clinic records for advanced-stage patients.
