What this trial studies
This pilot study evaluates the feasibility and acceptability of the ABC123 care planning framework for older patients diagnosed with advanced, incurable cancer. The framework integrates principles from geriatrics, oncology, and palliative care to enhance care alignment with patient goals. Participants will undergo a series of assessments and follow-ups over six months, including physical performance evaluations and guided discussions about care goals. Feedback from patients and healthcare providers will be collected to assess the framework's implementation and impact on care delivery.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients over 60 years old with recently diagnosed advanced, incurable solid-tumor cancer.
Not a fit: Patients with a different advanced cancer requiring systemic therapy or those with conditions compromising their well-being may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this framework could improve the alignment of cancer care with the individual goals and values of older patients.
How similar studies have performed: While this approach is innovative, similar frameworks in geriatric oncology have shown promise in enhancing patient-centered care.
Eligibility criteria

Inclusion Criteria: 1. Provision to sign and date the consent form 2. Age \>65 years old, or \>60 with at least one deficit on a geriatric screen. 3. Stated willingness to comply with all study procedures and be available for the duration of the study 4. Diagnosis of a solid-tumor cancer that is not curable with surgery or radiation within the 6 mos. prior to consenting. And that would potentially be treated with systemic cytotoxic chemotherapy. If molecular marker status is pending for a particular tumor, patients may still be approached for enrollment in the study. 5. New patient consultation within the UCHealth Denver Metro system or newly diagnosed with recurrent metastatic/incurable disease 6. English speaking only for the pilot portion Exclusion Criteria: 1. Have a diagnosis of a different advanced cancer that has required systemic therapy 2. Have any condition that, in the opinion of the investigator, would compromise the well-being of the subject or the study or prevent the subject from meeting or performing study requirements
