What this trial studies
This randomized controlled trial compares a brief, group-based educational intervention co-developed with user representatives plus standard outpatient care to standard care alone for adults with ADHD in community mental health centres. The intervention combines group sessions and digital support tools and is delivered at participating CMHCs (led from St. Olav's Hospital) to outpatients who speak a Scandinavian language. Primary outcomes include patient satisfaction with treatment and information, general self-efficacy, and patient activation, analyzed using an intention-to-treat approach. Eligible participants have a confirmed ADHD diagnosis and are able to give informed consent, while those with severe learning difficulties or currently admitted to acute inpatient wards are excluded.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults with a confirmed ADHD diagnosis who speak a Scandinavian language, are treated as outpatients at participating CMHCs, and are willing and able to give informed consent.
Not a fit: People who cannot give informed consent, are currently admitted to acute psychiatric wards, have severe learning difficulties, do not speak a Scandinavian language, or are enrolled in other research may not receive benefit from this intervention.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could increase patient engagement, self-efficacy, and satisfaction with care, helping people manage ADHD more effectively within routine outpatient services.
How similar studies have performed: Educational and self-management programs have shown moderate benefits for patient satisfaction and activation in other mental health settings, but brief group psychoeducation specifically tailored for adults with ADHD remains relatively novel.
