Automated freezing of eggs and embryos

Automation of Oocyte and Embryo Vitrification: a Pilot Study

Not applicable Interventional Conceivable Life Sciences · NCT07197983

What this trial studies

The trial directly compares a prototype automated vitrification device (PRESERVE-CR) with the clinic's standard manual vitrification performed by experienced embryologists. People undergoing IVF/ICSI at CARE Fertility Manchester who consent will have some eggs or embryos frozen using either the automated system or the manual method. The study will measure preservation outcomes such as survival and quality after warming, along with procedure time and operator variability. Results will show whether automation can match manual performance while providing more standardized and efficient workflows.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal participants are people undergoing IVF/ICSI at CARE Fertility Manchester with BMI 20–35 kg/m² and AMH ≥1.5 ng/mL who do not require surgical sperm retrieval.

Not a fit: People with low ovarian reserve, those requiring surgical sperm retrieval, or those treated outside the trial criteria or site are unlikely to receive benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the automated system could standardize freezing outcomes, reduce training and staffing burdens, lower costs, and help make fertility preservation more accessible.

How similar studies have performed: Automated vitrification approaches are relatively novel with limited published clinical comparison data, while manual vitrification by experienced embryologists remains the established standard.
