What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of current rehabilitation programs for injured workers in Ontario suffering from musculoskeletal injuries. It focuses on early identification and timely referral to appropriate health services to prevent chronic pain and improve recovery outcomes. The study utilizes advanced analytic techniques and self-report tools to predict recovery trajectories and optimize care strategies. By integrating these innovations into a single risk stratification protocol, the researchers hope to enhance the management of acute injuries and facilitate a safe return to work.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 18 and older who are entering rehabilitation for workplace injuries primarily related to musculoskeletal issues.
Not a fit: Patients with significant cognitive impairments or those with catastrophic injuries or primary mental health disorders may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved recovery outcomes and reduced chronic pain for injured workers.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown success with similar predictive assessment approaches in other populations, indicating potential for effectiveness in this context.
Eligibility criteria
Show full inclusion / exclusion criteria
Inclusion Criteria: Eligible participants are those aged ≥18 years, able to read 6th grade English, presenting to a program of care for rehabilitation of a workplace injury with a primary musculoskeletal or Low Back Pain component. Exclusion Criteria: Participants with significant cognitive impairment or learning disability (self-reported) that interfere with following multi-step instructions will be excluded from this study. The exclusive focus on those entering program of care-based rehab will naturally exclude workers with catastrophic injuries (e.g., loss of limb, multiple fractures, burns) or those for whom a mental health disorder (e.g., PTSD, depression) is the primary diagnosis, thereby homogenizing the types of injuries included.
