What this trial studies
This observational study aims to describe the sitting posture and associated pain in wheelchair users with neuromuscular diseases. It will evaluate the effectiveness of recommended equipment and positioning protocols through follow-up consultations. The study utilizes validated tools to assess postural control and pain levels, with the goal of developing best practice guidelines for wheelchair positioning in this patient population.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults and children with neuromuscular diseases who are wheelchair users and can provide informed consent.
Not a fit: Patients who have not been seen in a positioning consultation by the designated specialists will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved wheelchair positioning practices, reducing pain and preventing pressure ulcers for patients with neuromuscular diseases.
How similar studies have performed: While there is limited data on standardized wheelchair positioning protocols for neuromuscular diseases, similar studies have shown promise in improving patient outcomes through tailored interventions.
