What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on adolescents with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis (AIS) who either require bracing or surgical intervention due to severe spinal curvature. It aims to evaluate the health-related quality of life (HRQoL) of these patients using the SRS-22 questionnaire, which assesses various aspects of their condition, including physical, emotional, and social well-being. The study will involve patients attending a specialized outpatient clinic at Prince of Wales Hospital, where their experiences with bracing and the potential need for surgery will be documented. The findings will help understand the psychosocial impacts of scoliosis treatment on adolescents.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adolescents diagnosed with Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis who require bracing or surgical intervention.
Not a fit: Patients who are not required to wear a brace or are only under observation after their clinic visit may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the quality of life impacts of scoliosis treatments, guiding better patient care and support.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on scoliosis treatment outcomes, this specific focus on HRQoL in adolescents undergoing bracing or surgery is relatively novel.
