What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the prevalence and type distribution of oral HPV infection among women aged 18 and older who have tested positive on a PAP test. Participants will complete anamnestic questionnaires to gather sociodemographic and health-related data, followed by oral cavity inspections and exfoliative cytology tests at specific sites in the mouth. The samples collected will be analyzed for the presence of HPV DNA to determine the infection rates and types present in this population.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are women aged 18 and older who have received a positive result on a PAP test.

Not a fit: Patients who have a negative PAP test or are under 18 years old will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of oral HPV infection prevalence, potentially leading to improved screening and prevention strategies for affected women.

How similar studies have performed: While the specific approach of this study may be novel, similar studies have indicated a growing interest in understanding HPV prevalence in various populations, suggesting potential for meaningful findings.
