What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the incidence of malnutrition among patients admitted to the surgical Intensive Care Unit using the NUTRIC score. It will analyze various risk factors contributing to malnutrition, including the type of nutrition provided, caloric adequacy, and actual caloric intake. Laboratory investigations will be conducted twice weekly to gather comprehensive data on the patients' nutritional status.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adult patients of both sexes who are being admitted to the surgical ICU.

Not a fit: Patients referred from other hospitals or ICUs may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved nutritional management and outcomes for patients in the surgical ICU.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies assessing malnutrition in ICU settings, this specific approach using the NUTRIC score and focusing on surgical patients may provide novel insights.
