What this trial studies
This observational study evaluates the pulmonary and cardiovascular effects of vaping among adult electronic cigarette users over a five-year period. Participants will undergo biannual visits where they will perform various pulmonary function tests and complete questionnaires regarding their vaping and smoking habits. Additionally, blood samples and sputum inductions will be conducted to analyze inflammation markers and cell counts. The study aims to provide insights into the health impacts of daily vaping.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 years or older who are daily electronic cigarette users.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of the health risks associated with vaping, potentially leading to better prevention and treatment strategies.
How similar studies have performed: While there have been studies on vaping, this specific long-term observational approach focusing on both pulmonary and cardiovascular effects is relatively novel.
