Assessing kidney health using ultrasound in critically ill patients
Bedside Renal Ultrasound Assessment in Critically Ill Patients With Acute Kidney Injury: an Observational Study

What this trial studies
This study explores the use of bedside renal ultrasound to evaluate and predict acute kidney injury (AKI) in critically ill patients admitted to the ICU. It aims to observe the relationship between ultrasound parameters and the progression of AKI alongside traditional renal function indicators. By providing a rapid and non-invasive examination tool, the study seeks to enhance early diagnosis and treatment of AKI in patients facing critical illnesses such as sepsis and respiratory failure.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are critically ill patients aged 18 to 70 years who are admitted to the ICU and meet specific criteria for sepsis.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, have malignant tumors, severe heart failure, chronic renal insufficiency, end-stage renal disease, or have undergone kidney transplantation may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to earlier detection and improved management of acute kidney injury in critically ill patients.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using ultrasound for kidney assessment, but this specific approach in critically ill patients is relatively novel.
