Assessing intestinal inflammation in Crohn's disease using advanced MRI techniques

Assessment of Intestinal Inflammatory Activity in the Follow-up of Patients With Crohn's Disease: Diffusion-weighted MR-enterography, Without or With Bowel Cleansing, Compared With Standard MR-enterography

Not applicable Interventional Centre Hospitalier Universitaire, Amiens · NCT05354609

What this trial studies

This study evaluates the effectiveness of diffusion-weighted MR-enterography in assessing intestinal inflammatory activity in patients with Crohn's disease. It compares the results of MR-enterography performed with and without bowel cleansing, utilizing advanced 3T MRI technology for improved imaging quality. The study aims to determine if bowel cleansing can be omitted while still achieving accurate assessments of inflammation. Participants will undergo a simplified MR-enterography procedure as part of their follow-up care.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include adults aged 18 and older diagnosed with Crohn's disease involving the bowel who require MR-enterography for follow-up.

Not a fit: Patients with contraindications to MRI, such as severe claustrophobia or allergies to gadolinium, will not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide a less invasive and more patient-friendly method for monitoring Crohn's disease.

How similar studies have performed: While there have been few studies on 3T MR-enterography without bowel cleansing, previous research has shown promising results for diffusion-weighted imaging in assessing inflammatory bowel disease.
