What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate vascular function among healthy African American, Hispanic, and Caucasian adults to explore racial differences in cardiovascular health. Participants will consume either beetroot juice, known for its high nitrate content, or a placebo, with their vascular responses measured before and 90 minutes after consumption. The study will employ a randomized, placebo-controlled design, ensuring a rigorous assessment of the effects of nitrate supplementation on vascular function. A washout period of at least one week will be implemented between the two visits to ensure accurate results.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are healthy men and women who identify as Caucasian American, Hispanic, or non-Hispanic African American.

Not a fit: Patients with high blood pressure, obesity, or a history of cardiovascular diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved dietary recommendations for enhancing vascular health in diverse populations.

How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that nitrate supplementation can improve vascular function, but this specific investigation into racial differences is novel.
