What this trial studies

This study involves patients hospitalized for exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Participants will be randomly assigned to two groups: one receiving care solely from a pulmonologist and the other receiving additional evaluation from a cardiologist. Both groups will complete a questionnaire and receive follow-up assessments over the next year to monitor changes in treatment, new cardiovascular issues, COPD flare-ups, and mortality. The goal is to improve diagnosis and treatment by addressing potential cardiovascular comorbidities during COPD exacerbations.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18-75 with documented COPD who can provide informed consent.

Not a fit: Patients under 18, those unable to provide consent, or with unstable concurrent diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could lead to better management of both COPD and cardiovascular diseases, improving patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that addressing comorbidities like cardiovascular diseases during COPD management can lead to improved patient outcomes.
