What this trial studies
This study evaluates the feasibility and validation of a short dietary screening tool for hypertension in Nigerian clinics. It aims to address the rising prevalence of hypertension in West Africa by providing clinicians with a concise tool that offers personalized dietary support. The study will be conducted in two phases: the first phase will assess the tool's feasibility and its agreement with traditional dietary recalls, while the second phase will validate the tool's effectiveness in relation to hypertension. The ultimate goal is to create a clinically tested dietary assessment tool that can be easily implemented in clinical practice.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men and women of generally good health or those diagnosed with hypertension.
Not a fit: Patients with chronic diseases, pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 18, and adults over 70 will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide healthcare professionals in Nigeria with a practical tool to offer personalized dietary advice, potentially reducing hypertension rates.
How similar studies have performed: While dietary assessment tools have been developed in other regions, this specific approach tailored for Nigeria is novel and untested.
