What this trial studies

This observational study aims to evaluate the risk factors and complications associated with diabetic foot ulcers (DFU) among diabetes mellitus (DM) patients in Northern Jordan. It consists of two phases: the first phase involves a cross-sectional analysis of 200 DM patients to identify risk factors, while the second phase is a randomized clinical trial with 105 patients comparing standard care to enhanced care that includes educational interventions. The study assesses the effectiveness of ongoing foot care education provided via mobile health by a clinical pharmacist on patient behavior and adherence to foot care practices over an 8-week follow-up period.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with diabetes mellitus who have had the condition for at least one year and possess a mobile phone.

Not a fit: Patients with cognitive impairment may not benefit from this study due to challenges in understanding and following educational interventions.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved foot care practices and reduced complications for diabetic patients in Jordan.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that educational interventions can significantly improve patient outcomes in managing diabetic foot problems, suggesting a promising approach.
