What this trial studies
The COLOSARC-Q study is a multicenter observational project aimed at evaluating colorectal resections and reconstruction techniques during multivisceral resections for retroperitoneal sarcomas. It focuses on documenting surgical complications, such as anastomotic leakage rates and the incidence of stomas, while also assessing the impact of these procedures on patients' quality of life through standardized surveys. The study plans to include 120 patients who have undergone these surgeries at certified sarcoma centers, collecting detailed patient, tumor, and treatment-specific data. This comprehensive approach aims to enhance surgical decision-making and improve patient outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are adults aged 18 and older with histologically confirmed retroperitoneal sarcoma who are undergoing colorectal resection as part of a multivisceral resection.
Not a fit: Patients who do not provide consent or have not undergone the required surgical procedures will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved surgical techniques and better management of complications, ultimately enhancing the quality of life for patients with retroperitoneal sarcoma.
How similar studies have performed: While there is existing data on surgical principles and complications in multivisceral resections, this specific study aims to fill gaps in knowledge regarding stoma rates and quality of life, making it a novel approach.
