Assessing chemotherapy toxicity risks in older cancer patients in China
Correlation of the Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG) Chemotherapy Toxicity Risk Scores and Unplanned Hospitalizations in Older Cancer Patients--A Multi-center Prospective Cohort Study
This study is trying to see if a special score can help predict how older cancer patients in China will react to chemotherapy and if it can help prevent unexpected hospital visits.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the Cancer and Aging Research Group (CARG) chemotherapy toxicity risk score in predicting chemotherapy-related toxicity among cancer patients aged 70 and older in China. The study will involve collecting data from participants at Renji Hospital and Henan Cancer Hospital, where patients will complete assessments based on the CARG tool. The research seeks to understand the correlation between the CARG scores and unplanned hospitalizations, addressing a significant gap in knowledge regarding older adults' responses to chemotherapy in this region.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are cancer patients aged 70 and older who are starting a new chemotherapy regimen.
Not a fit: Patients receiving immunotherapy, targeted therapy only, or those with hematologic malignancies will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved risk assessment and management strategies for older cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
How similar studies have performed: While the CARG toxicity score has been widely used internationally, this specific application in older Chinese cancer patients is novel and has not been extensively tested.
