What this trial studies

This observational project will invite up to 1,000 adults who are being screened for or already enrolled in CCTG cancer trials to complete a questionnaire taking about 10 minutes in English or French. Questions cover income, education, employment, housing, social supports, experiences of discrimination or stress, and participants' feelings about answering these items. Both prospective participants (being consented) and retrospective participants (currently under follow-up) can take part, except those already enrolled in a CCTG trial that is also collecting the same SDoH questionnaire. Researchers will use the responses to better understand who participates in clinical trials and identify barriers to access.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Adults (age ≥18) who are either currently being screened and consented to a CCTG cancer trial or already enrolled and under follow-up, and who are not in a CCTG trial already collecting the same SDoH questionnaire.

Not a fit: People not enrolled in a CCTG trial, or those already participating in a CCTG trial that collects the same questionnaire, are not eligible and will not benefit directly from this data collection.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this work could help make cancer trials more inclusive by identifying and addressing social barriers that limit patients' access to trials.

How similar studies have performed: Collecting social determinants data has been done successfully in other healthcare settings, though routine collection within oncology trial workflows is less established.
