What this trial studies

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a smartphone application designed to reduce cravings for smoking when used alongside Tobacco Quitline services. The app will be updated to enhance user engagement and satisfaction, and its efficacy will be tested in a randomized controlled trial against Quitline services alone. Participants will be daily smokers who have recently quit or those who have been smoking regularly for at least a year. The study will assess improvements in smoking abstinence rates among users of the app compared to those receiving standard Quitline support.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults over 18 who are daily smokers and either have quit within the last three months or have been smoking at least three cigarettes per day for the past year.

Not a fit: Patients who do not own a smartphone capable of supporting the app or those who have another household member enrolled in the study may not benefit.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this approach could significantly enhance smoking cessation efforts and improve long-term abstinence rates for smokers.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using technology-based interventions for smoking cessation, indicating that this approach may be effective.
