What this trial studies
This study evaluates the effectiveness of an animated education program designed to prepare children aged 6-12 for their first scheduled cardiac catheterization. Children in the intervention group will receive this educational program 24 hours prior to the procedure, while the control group will receive standard care. The study aims to measure anxiety levels before the procedure and assess any vascular complications, such as bleeding or hematoma, after the catheterization. Data will be collected through interviews and medical record reviews over a three-month period.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are children aged 6-12 years who are scheduled for their first non-emergency cardiac catheterization.
Not a fit: Patients with developmental delays, emergency procedures, or significant health issues prior to the catheterization may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly reduce anxiety and vascular complications in children undergoing cardiac catheterization.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown that educational interventions can effectively reduce anxiety in pediatric patients, suggesting potential success for this approach.
