Analyzing the relationship between skeletal patterns and impacted third molars using 3D imaging

Assessment of Vertical Pattern in Correlation With Third Molar Inclusion : a 3D CBCT Analysis

Central Hospital, Nancy, France · NCT06320665

This study looks at how the shape of people's jaws and faces might affect whether their wisdom teeth get stuck and can't come in properly, using 3D imaging to compare different patients.

What this trial studies

This observational study aims to compare the sagittal and vertical skeletal parameters of patients with impacted third molars. It involves a retrospective analysis of existing 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) data to assess the correlation between skeletal characteristics and third molar inclusion patterns. Patients will be categorized based on their skeletal class and facial typology, with a focus on understanding how these factors influence the presence and development of impacted teeth. The study does not involve any interventions but relies on radiographic measurements for analysis.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults with at least one impacted third molar at Nolla stage 6 and who have reached skeletal maturity.

Not a fit: Patients with previous maxillofacial trauma, ongoing growth, or certain dental and medical conditions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance the understanding of third molar inclusion patterns, potentially guiding orthodontic treatment decisions.

How similar studies have performed: While similar studies have explored the relationship between skeletal patterns and dental development, this specific approach using 3D CBCT analysis is relatively novel.
