Analyzing the cellular environment of colorectal cancer spread in the abdomen
The Role of the Peritoneal Microenvironment in the Pathogenesis of Colorectal Peritoneal Carcinomatosis: Single-cell Transcriptomics
This study is trying to understand the different types of cells in the abdominal area of patients with colorectal cancer to see how they interact and affect the cancer's spread.

What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on the single-cell transcriptomics of colorectal cancer peritoneal metastases. Patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery will have tumor samples collected for analysis, specifically targeting the stromal cell types within the tumor microenvironment. The methodology involves single-cell RNA sequencing to catalog and characterize the cellular composition of the tumor stroma, providing insights into the interactions between immune and stromal cells. The study aims to enhance understanding of the peritoneal microenvironment in colorectal cancer.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are patients undergoing cytoreductive surgery for peritoneal metastases of colorectal origin.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously undergone HIPEC or PIPAC will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved therapeutic strategies targeting the tumor microenvironment in colorectal cancer.
How similar studies have performed: While single-cell RNA sequencing has been successfully applied in various cancer studies, this specific approach to colorectal peritoneal metastases is relatively novel.
