Analyzing T-Cell Responses in Kidney Transplantation
Alloreactive t Cell Repertoire in Kidney Transplantation Recipients
This study is trying to see how the immune cells of kidney transplant patients react to their new kidney to help predict if they might reject it.

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to characterize the donor-reactive T cell repertoire in kidney transplant recipients by utilizing mixed lymphocyte reactions to identify alloreactive T cell clones before and after transplantation. The study will involve sampling peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) at specified intervals and conducting kidney biopsies to compare T cell responses in patients with and without acute T cell mediated rejection. The researchers will sequence T cell receptor beta chains to assess the diversity and abundance of alloreactive T cells, aiming to establish patterns that could predict transplant rejection.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals undergoing kidney transplantation at the Medical University of Vienna.
Not a fit: Patients who have not undergone evaluation by the Medical University of Vienna for their donor may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved monitoring and management strategies for kidney transplant recipients, potentially reducing the incidence of rejection.
How similar studies have performed: While the approach of analyzing T cell repertoires in transplantation is gaining traction, this specific methodology and focus on alloreactive T cells is relatively novel.
