What this trial studies
This observational cohort study aims to evaluate the 15-year cumulative incidence of advanced colorectal neoplasia and colorectal cancer-related mortality following an index colonoscopy. Utilizing the Clinical Data Analysis and Reporting System (CDARS), the study will retrospectively identify patients who underwent colonoscopy between January 1, 2000, and October 31, 2020. Relevant diagnoses, procedures, medications, laboratory results, and pathology findings will be analyzed to understand long-term outcomes.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who have undergone colonoscopy in Hong Kong's HA hospitals during the specified time frame.
Not a fit: Patients with a documented personal history of colorectal cancers prior to the study period will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide valuable insights into the long-term risks associated with colorectal neoplasia, potentially guiding future screening and management strategies.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have explored similar long-term outcomes after colonoscopy, indicating that this approach has been previously validated.
