Analyzing genetic traits linked to Hidradenitis Suppurativa in families
Hidradenitis Suppurativa - a Mendelian Trait? Genetic Pedigree and Linkage Analysis
University of Chicago · NCT05710393

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to investigate the genetic connections among individuals with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS) by analyzing family traits and inheritance patterns. Participants will include both affected individuals and their unaffected family members, allowing researchers to create a familial pedigree and identify potential genetic causes of HS. Data collection will involve blood sample analysis, medical histories, and family histories to explore the hypothesis that HS may be inherited in a Mendelian fashion. The study seeks to provide insights into the origins of this chronic skin condition, which currently lacks effective treatment options.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals diagnosed with Hidradenitis Suppurativa and their unaffected family members.
Not a fit: Patients under 7 years of age will not benefit from this study as they are excluded from participation.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to a better understanding of the genetic factors contributing to Hidradenitis Suppurativa, potentially paving the way for targeted treatments.
How similar studies have performed: While anecdotal evidence suggests familial links in HS, this study represents a novel approach to systematically investigate genetic inheritance patterns.
