Analysis of the ovarian (infundibulopelvic) ligament removed during ovarian cancer surgery

Anatomopathological Analysis of the Infundibulopelvic Ligament in Patients With Ovarian Cancer

Observational Complejo Hospitalario Universitario Insular Materno Infantil · NCT07100288

What this trial studies

This is an observational pathology study that examines infundibulopelvic ligament tissue resected as part of complete staging surgery in patients with epithelial ovarian cancer. Researchers will analyze the ligament specimens for tumor involvement and correlate those findings with para‑aortic lymph node status and patient outcomes. Eligible patients include those undergoing primary or interval complete staging surgery (hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo‑oophorectomy, pelvic and para‑aortic lymphadenectomy, omentectomy) with no residual disease and ECOG 0–1. The goal is to determine whether ligament involvement is associated with metastatic spread and survival.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: People with epithelial ovarian cancer (including serous, endometrioid, mucinous, and carcinosarcoma) FIGO 2014 stage IA–IVB who undergo complete primary or interval staging surgery with no residual disease and have ECOG 0–1 are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: Patients with non‑epithelial ovarian tumors, ECOG 2–4, incomplete staging or residual disease after cytoreduction, or those who do not have the ligament resected are unlikely to benefit from this analysis.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If ligament involvement predicts nodal spread or worse outcomes, findings could help clinicians improve staging and tailor surgical or adjuvant management.

How similar studies have performed: Some prior pathology series have reported that infundibulopelvic ligament involvement correlates with para‑aortic node metastasis and poorer survival, but the evidence remains limited and not widely validated.

Eligibility criteria

  * Patients undergoing primary surgery or interval surgery after 3-4 or 6 cycles of chemtherapy
  * Patients with no residual disease after surgery.
  * Patients with ECOG performance status 0-1.

Exclusion Criteria:

* ◦ Patients without epithelial ovarian cancer.

  * Patients with ECOG 2-4.
  * Patients who do not consent to participate in the study.
  * Patients who did not undergo complete staging surgery (including hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy, and omentectomy) or with residual disease after cytoreductive surgery.
