What this trial studies
This observational study focuses on understanding the interactions between pharmacists and elderly patients who have experienced an ischemic stroke and are being treated with antithrombotic medications. Through semi-structured interviews, the study aims to identify barriers and facilitators to medication adherence in this population. The insights gained from these interviews will help inform strategies to improve adherence to secondary prevention treatments, which are crucial for reducing the risk of recurrent strokes. The study specifically targets patients aged 65 and older who have been hospitalized for an ischemic stroke.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are elderly patients aged 65 and over who have been hospitalized for an ischemic stroke and are currently on antithrombotic treatment.
Not a fit: Patients with cognitive disorders or severe stroke sequelae that prevent them from participating in interviews may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance medication adherence among elderly stroke patients, potentially reducing the risk of recurrent strokes and improving overall health outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have successfully identified barriers to medication adherence in stroke patients, suggesting that this qualitative approach could yield valuable insights.
