What this trial studies
This observational study involves the systematic assessment of chest CT scans from World Trade Center workers and volunteers collected between 2003 and 2016. The research team aims to identify findings related to chronic airway disease, interstitial lung disease, and lung cancer, while correlating these findings with clinical and exposure data. The study will also explore the progression of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and the impact of obesity on lung health through advanced imaging techniques and longitudinal data analysis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are individuals who participated in the WTC Health Plan Clinical Center Excellence program and have undergone chest CT imaging.
Not a fit: Patients who are not part of the WTC Health Plan or do not have relevant lung conditions may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could enhance understanding of lung diseases related to World Trade Center exposure and improve monitoring and treatment strategies for affected individuals.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies focusing on the health impacts of the World Trade Center disaster have shown promising results, indicating that this approach is built on established research.
