What this trial studies
This is a randomized controlled, pretest-posttest design enrolling 80 women who had vaginal deliveries at Malatya Training and Research Hospital between July and October 2025. Forty participants will take part in an 8-week MBSR program (first session face-to-face, remaining weekly sessions online, 60–90 minutes each) while 40 control participants receive no intervention. Outcomes are measured before and after the program using the Mindfulness Scale, the Birth Memory and Recall Scale, and the Traumatic Birth Perception Scale. Primary endpoints are changes in birth memory and traumatic birth perception scores, analyzed with t-tests and descriptive statistics.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Women who had a vaginal birth, are literate in Turkish, have no diagnosed psychiatric disorder, and have internet access and a smart device are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: Women with a history of pregnancy loss, stillbirth, neonatal death, postpartum complications, diagnosed psychiatric disorders, or those unable to attend sessions or complete data collection may not benefit.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the program could reduce distressing birth memories and lower perceptions of traumatic birth, improving postpartum mental well-being.
How similar studies have performed: Similar mindfulness programs have shown promise in reducing postpartum stress and improving maternal mental health, though applying MBSR specifically to birth memory and traumatic birth perception is less extensively studied.
