What this trial studies
This study aims to develop an AI-based mobile health intervention to encourage HIV testing among cis-gender males in Malaysia. Participants will be randomly assigned to either an AI-chatbot group, which provides personalized information and motivation regarding HIV testing, or a treatment as usual (TAU) group that receives scripted health education messages. The effectiveness of the intervention will be measured by the proportion of participants who undergo HIV testing within 180 days. Additionally, educational materials will be sent to participants periodically to reinforce the messaging.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are cis-gender males who have had condomless sex with men in the past six months and have an unknown or previously negative HIV status.
Not a fit: Patients who have previously tested positive for HIV or do not have access to a smartphone will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could significantly increase the rates of HIV testing among at-risk populations.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies utilizing AI-based interventions for health promotion have shown promising results, indicating potential success for this approach.
