What this trial studies

This program aims to evaluate two different screening methods for identifying patients with referable glaucoma in Barcelona. Participants aged 45 to 64 will undergo a one-time visit for an optic disc examination and intraocular pressure measurement. One group will have their optic disc images analyzed by an Artificial Intelligence (AI) software, while the other will be assessed by an ophthalmologist. The study will compare the diagnostic accuracy and cost-effectiveness of both approaches.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 45 to 64 living in the metropolitan area of Barcelona with a family history of glaucoma.

Not a fit: Patients with a prior diagnosis of glaucoma or significant ophthalmic diseases may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this program could enhance early detection of glaucoma, leading to better patient outcomes.

How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using AI for glaucoma screening, indicating potential for success in this approach.
