Adaptive cycling therapy for Parkinson's disease
Effects of Patient-Specific Adaptive Dynamic Cycling on Function Improvement in Individuals With Parkinson's Disease

What this trial studies
This study investigates the effects of a speed-manipulated adaptive cycling therapy on individuals with Parkinson's disease. Participants will be randomized into two groups: one receiving patient-specific adaptive cycling and the other undergoing non-adaptive cycling. Each participant will complete 12 sessions that include warm-up, main exercise, and cool-down periods, with adjustments made to the adaptive group's cycling settings based on their performance. The goal is to enhance motor function and mobility through tailored exercise regimens.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are individuals aged 50-79 with idiopathic Parkinson's disease who have no contraindications to exercise.
Not a fit: Patients with major signs or symptoms of cardiovascular or pulmonary disease may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this therapy could significantly improve motor function and quality of life for patients with Parkinson's disease.
How similar studies have performed: Previous studies have shown that high-cadence cycling can improve motor function in Parkinson's patients, suggesting potential success for this adaptive approach.
