What this trial studies
This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture, specifically the Dragon's protocol, in reducing the intensity of chronic pelvic pain in women. The protocol involves two phases: external Dragons, where needles are placed on the dorsal surface while patients reflect on past trauma, and internal Dragons, where needles are placed on the ventral surface to help process these memories. The study will compare the outcomes of acupuncture with standard pain management strategies. It targets women aged 21-65 with chronic pelvic pain who have negative laparoscopic findings for endometriosis.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are active duty and DoD female beneficiaries aged 21-65 with chronic pelvic pain and negative laparoscopic findings for endometriosis.
Not a fit: Patients with severe mental health disorders or pelvic pain resulting from severe physical trauma, as well as pregnant individuals, may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could provide an effective and low-cost alternative treatment for women suffering from chronic pelvic pain.
How similar studies have performed: While acupuncture has been studied for various pain conditions, the specific application of the Dragon's protocol for chronic pelvic pain is relatively novel.
