What this trial studies

CD56 (NCAM) is normally found on natural killer cells and some T cells but has been reported in multiple myeloma and linked to worse outcomes in AML. This observational study will measure CD56 expression patterns in newly diagnosed patients with a range of hematologic malignancies using clinical samples collected at Assiut University. The investigators aim to map which disease types and cell populations show ectopic CD56 and to relate expression patterns to clinical categories. Findings will be descriptive and hypothesis-generating rather than interventional.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Newly diagnosed patients with any hematologic malignancy who can provide required clinical samples at the study site are ideal candidates.

Not a fit: People with non-malignant hematologic disorders or those who have already received treatment for their malignancy are unlikely to be eligible or to gain direct benefit from this observational work.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, the work could identify CD56 as a diagnostic or prognostic marker that helps classify subtypes of blood cancers and guide future research.

How similar studies have performed: Prior reports have found CD56 expression in multiple myeloma and a meta-analysis linked CD56 overexpression with poorer prognosis in AML, but its expression across many other hematologic malignancies remains largely uncharacterized.
