A study on frailty and dependence in older adults
Prospective Cohort for the Study of Phenotypic Clusters, Progression Paths and Outcomes of Frailty and Dependence: The Spanish CohorFES

What this trial studies
This observational study aims to identify clinical and biological phenotypic clusters associated with frailty syndrome in older adults. It will establish a prospective population-based cohort called CohorFES to facilitate frailty phenotyping and create a biobank for future research. The study will also validate the Frailty Trait Scale 5 (FTS5) as a practical tool for early detection and management of frailty in clinical settings. By understanding the trajectories leading to disability, the study seeks to improve preventive strategies against frailty.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates for this study are men and women aged 65 years or older who are visiting outpatient clinics.
Not a fit: Patients in critical end-of-life situations or with a Barthel scale score below 60 may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this study could lead to improved screening and management of frailty, enhancing the quality of life for older adults.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success in identifying frailty phenotypes, but this approach aims to fill gaps in clinical settings, making it a novel contribution.
