What this trial studies

This observational research aims to assess the feasibility of a new software application designed for smartphones and tablets that measures abnormal body movements associated with Parkinson's disease (PD) using a commercially available camera. The NeuroVision App will facilitate remote monitoring of PD symptoms during telehealth appointments by capturing motor outcomes through standardized assessment tasks. These tasks include observing tremors, bradykinesia, and akinesia, which will be validated against a reference motion capture system. The goal is to enhance the accuracy of symptom assessment in a home setting, making it more convenient for patients and clinicians alike.

Who should consider this trial

Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals aged 35 and older with physician-diagnosed Parkinson's disease or other movement disorders, exhibiting mild to moderate motor symptoms.

Not a fit: Patients who are unable to understand spoken English or follow simple instructions may not benefit from this study.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly improve the monitoring and management of Parkinson's disease symptoms for patients in a telehealth setting.

How similar studies have performed: While the approach of using smartphone technology for monitoring movement disorders is emerging, this specific application and methodology are relatively novel and have not been extensively tested in prior studies.
