What this trial studies
This trial evaluates the effectiveness of a smartphone application designed to motivate smokers to increase their readiness to quit and make quit attempts. It employs a prospective, randomized, single-blinded approach, focusing on behavioral change principles. The app features daily reminders, gamification elements, and reflective activities to engage users in their smoking habits. Participants will be monitored over a six-month period to assess the app's impact on smoking cessation behaviors.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are current smokers aged 18 and older living in Ontario, Canada, who are not planning to quit within the next 30 days.
Not a fit: Patients who are planning to quit smoking within the next 30 days or those with cognitive impairments may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could significantly enhance smokers' motivation and readiness to quit, leading to higher cessation rates.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown promise in using mobile applications for smoking cessation, indicating that this approach has potential based on previous findings.
