What this trial studies
This trial aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a smoking cessation program specifically designed for individuals living with certain chronic conditions, delivered through videoconferencing. Participants will be divided into two groups: one receiving the tailored cessation program and the other receiving an Attention Matched Control program that does not focus on smoking cessation. Both groups will receive brief advice to quit and nicotine replacement therapy patches, along with 12 group sessions conducted online. The study will measure smoking behavior over a year to determine which program is more effective in helping participants quit smoking.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who smoke cigarettes, are motivated to quit, and are living with certain health conditions.
Not a fit: Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have contraindications to nicotine replacement therapy may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve smoking cessation rates among individuals with chronic conditions.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar smoking cessation approaches, particularly those tailored for specific populations.
