What this trial studies
This intervention aims to support parents diagnosed with schizophrenia by integrating a program called Learning Through Play (LTP) with culturally appropriate Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for psychosis. The study will assess the acceptability and feasibility of this combined approach, focusing on the number of sessions attended and participant retention. It will also identify suitable outcome measures for future trials and explore barriers to participant recruitment. The study will involve 90 parents from various psychiatric units across seven cities in Pakistan.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include parents aged 18 and above diagnosed with schizophrenia or related psychotic disorders who have a child between birth and 36 months.
Not a fit: Patients with active substance abuse issues or those who do not meet the inclusion criteria will not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this intervention could enhance parenting skills and improve developmental outcomes for children of parents with schizophrenia.
How similar studies have performed: While this specific approach is novel, similar interventions targeting parental mental health have shown promise in improving child outcomes in other contexts.
