What this trial studies
This pilot project aims to develop a mobile application that monitors physiological measures of individuals with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) and automatically plays personalized music through a wearable device. The study will assess the feasibility and acceptability of this app as a tool for caregivers in home settings, leveraging the established benefits of music therapy. Participants will include both individuals with ADRD and their caregivers, focusing on those experiencing neuropsychiatric symptoms such as agitation and depressive moods.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates include individuals with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias who exhibit symptoms like agitation or depression and can hear with or without assistance.
Not a fit: Patients with inadequate hearing or a history of psychosis or substance abuse may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this app could enhance the quality of life for patients with Alzheimer's and related dementias by providing personalized music therapy.
How similar studies have performed: While the use of music therapy in dementia care is established, this specific approach using a mobile app is relatively novel and has not been extensively tested.
