What this trial studies
MI-CARE is a practice-based randomized controlled trial designed to enhance medication adherence and blood pressure control among high-risk patients with hypertension. The intervention involves a collaborative team of a clinical pharmacist and a community health worker (CHW) who provide culturally tailored support to address barriers to adherence. This innovative approach aims to improve health outcomes for diverse populations, particularly African-American, Latino, and Vietnamese immigrant patients, by integrating clinical expertise with community-based resources. The study will assess the effectiveness of this intervention through pre- and post-intervention evaluations of medication adherence and blood pressure levels.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Ideal candidates are adults aged 18 and older who identify as African-American or Latino, have hypertension, and struggle with medication adherence.
Not a fit: Patients who do not meet the cultural identity criteria or those who are unable to comprehend the informed consent process may not benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this program could significantly improve medication adherence and health outcomes for patients with hypertension.
How similar studies have performed: Other studies have shown success with similar interprofessional approaches to improve medication adherence and health outcomes, indicating a promising avenue for this intervention.
