A clinical risk model to identify people at higher risk for esophageal, stomach, or colorectal cancer
Establishment and Validation of a Clinical Predictive Model for Gastrointestinal Cancer Screening Based on Patient-related Risk Factors: a Prospective, Multicenter Cross-sectional Study
This project will try to use common patient factors like age, family history, smoking and alcohol to see if they can identify people at higher risk for esophageal, stomach, or colorectal cancer who may need endoscopic screening.

What this trial studies
This observational study will collect patient-related risk factor data alongside results from both gastroscopy and colonoscopy to build a predictive model for gastrointestinal malignancies. Researchers will combine demographic, medical history, and lifestyle variables to develop and internally validate a classifier that flags higher-risk individuals for esophageal, gastric, or colorectal cancers. The model will be trained on labeled endoscopic findings and then tested for discrimination and calibration. The goal is a practical, patient-centered tool to guide screening decisions across the digestive tract.
Who should consider this trial
Good fit: Adults aged 18–80 who are undergoing both gastroscopy and colonoscopy, can provide informed consent, and have no prior diagnosis of esophageal, gastric, or colorectal cancer are ideal candidates.
Not a fit: People with a history of esophageal, gastric, or colorectal cancer, recent gastrointestinal surgery, contraindications to endoscopy, pregnancy or lactation, or missing key information are unlikely to benefit from this study.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, the model could help clinicians target endoscopic screening to people at higher risk and increase early cancer detection, which improves outcomes.
How similar studies have performed: Prior work has produced risk scores for individual sites (for example, colorectal or gastric cancer) with moderate success, but comprehensive models covering multiple digestive tract cancers are less established.
