NIH-funded research University of Southern California · NIH-10930855

This study is all about helping Hispanic and Latino patients with colorectal cancer get more involved and informed about genetic research, so we're looking for ways to make the information easier to understand and connect with, and we need 775 participants to help us do that!

What this research studies

This research focuses on enhancing the participation and understanding of Hispanic/Latino patients with colorectal cancer in genomic studies. It aims to identify the educational and communication needs of these patients to develop culturally appropriate tools for better engagement. The project will involve a cohort of 275 participants with metastatic colorectal cancer and an additional 500 newly diagnosed or survivor patients, utilizing an iterative process of experimentation and evaluation to optimize patient involvement and outcomes in genomic research.

Who could benefit from this research

Good fit: Ideal candidates for this research are Hispanic/Latino patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer, including both newly diagnosed individuals and survivors.

Not a fit: Patients who do not identify as Hispanic/Latino or those with other types of cancer may not receive benefits from this research.

Why it matters

Potential benefit: If successful, this research could lead to improved participation and health outcomes for Hispanic/Latino colorectal cancer patients in genomic studies.

How similar studies have performed: While there is limited empirical data on this specific approach, similar efforts to enhance patient engagement in diverse populations have shown promise in improving participation and outcomes.
