What this research studies
Many Latino individuals in rural areas face challenges getting healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, which can contribute to chronic health issues. This project partners with community leaders and local food stores to make it easier for shoppers to find and choose healthier options. We are adapting a successful program to fit the unique needs of rural communities and will see how well it helps stores offer more healthy foods and encourages people to eat them.
Who could benefit from this research
Good fit: This project is for Latino individuals living in rural communities who shop at participating food retail stores.
Not a fit: Patients not living in the specific rural Latino communities where the intervention is implemented may not directly benefit from this particular project.
Why it matters
Potential benefit: If successful, this work could lead to better access to healthy foods and improved health for Latino communities in rural areas.
How similar studies have performed: The intervention, 'Our Value,' has been shown to be effective in other settings and is now being adapted for rural areas.
